Instructions to install a 3-spoke (Airbag) Sport Steering Wheel in an UrS4
If you have a four spoke air bag steering wheel in your UrS4 and you can get a hold of a three spoke airbag sport steering wheel from an UrS6 or an early B5 A4 for a decent price (e.g. $120 for the wheel and $150 for the air bag), then you really owe it to yourself to convert the steering wheel. The feel of the car is amazingly different with the thicker-rimmed sport steering wheel.
The original version of this at S-cars.org was written by Mike DeBlasio. I used Mike’s instructions to make my first installation. I then developed two other methods of modifying the clock spring (slip ring), Method 2 and Method 3. I did Method 2 but ran out of steering wheels and clocksprings to try Method 3. I sent Steve Young (RS2Spec) my sketches for all three methods and encouraged Steve to try Method 3 since I believe it is the best one to use. He did that and has now written up an excellant pdf procedure (with photos) that is located at S-cars.org. (Link below). Many thanks Steve!! (and Darin for hosting!!)
